Democracy and the Welfare State

Renowned for their innovative social policies and for the high standards of their democratic institutions and their focus on equality and inclusiveness, the Nordic countries are a synonym for modern democratic welfare states. Migration and integration, pension systems in an ageing society, the rise of rightwing extremism and populism, the ongoing privatization of public services are just some of the topics in our Nordic-German focus. How can the Nordic welfare system meet the requirements if a changing society?
