Europa delar en yttre gräns, men debatter och samtal om migration är oftast nationella. I alla EU:s medlemsstater är migration ett viktigt tema inte minst i sociala medier. Och även om det man delar oftast har en stark lokal koppling, så finns det flera gemensamma nämnare mellan hur samtalen förs i de 28 medlemsstaterna.
Studien ”Migration Narratives in Europe – A Social Media Intelligence Study”, genomförd av Bakamo.Social analyserar vad européer säger och delar om migration i sociala medier. De har använt sig av en ny metod som de kallar ”social media listening” och i över ett år (augusti 2017-juli 2018) utvärderat 45 miljoner kommentarer i sociala medier, ca 10 000 kommentarer per europeiskt land. Sverige sticker ut som landet med flest inlägg på temat migration. I den här första mediaanalysen som omfattar alla EU:s 28 medlemsstater, har författarna identifierat gemensamma narrativ och diskurser om migration med sin innovativa metod.
