100 Years of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung

In 2025, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) celebrates its 100th anniversary. As the oldest political foundation in Germany, we stand in the tradition of the workers’ movement and are guided by the core values of social democracy.

Our mission remains the same today as it was a century ago: to strengthen, defend, and promote a socially just democracy.

The foundation’s work is rooted in the legacy of Friedrich Ebert, the first democratically elected president of the Weimar Republic. He firmly believed that “democracy needs democrats” — a conviction that continues to shape our work. Democracy depends on informed, engaged, and socially responsible citizens who are committed to making it sustainable and just. This is more relevant than ever in a time when democracy faces increasing pressure around the world.

Throughout 2025, FES is marking this centenary with a wide range of events, exhibitions, and activities in Germany and across the globe.

The FES Nordic Office will celebrate this milestone on November 19, 2025.

We look forward to sharing our activities with you here.
